Make your mark on water quality and environmental sustainability. WEFTEC 2025—it's more than just a conference. Connect in person with the full water community and work toward a world free of water challenges.
WEFTEC has proudly earned the Events Industry Council's Sustainable Event Standards Platinum Certification, marking a significant achievement in sustainable event management!
With the generous contributions of WEFTEC participants and a matching contribution from WEF, we offset 9,524 MTCO2e of carbon emissions, covering the travel emissions for all WEF staff and 55% of attendee travel.
WEF purchased Water Restoration Credits (WRC) from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to cover the entire water consumption (536,000 gallons) from venue operations at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convent Center WEFTEC.
Energy use is a critical component of carbon-emissions reduction, and WEF places a strong emphasis on collaborating with venues that demonstrate excellent energy management practices. The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convent Center has implemented significant upgrades to enhance efficiency and reduce energy consumption. This resulted in a reduction in energy consumption by 61% over 2023.
WEF’s sustainable procurement initiatives focused on responsible sourcing and necessity. We collaborated with catering to promote sustainability, including replacing plastic water bottles with an aluminum option and replacing plastic takeout containers with compostable options.
A core pillar of WEFTEC is its commitment to social sustainability. In 2024, WEF expanded its efforts to foster community engagement while delivering environmental, social, and economic benefits. In addition to the Community Service Project and Water Palooza, conference participants assembled laundry kits for the Ronald McDonald House and STEM kits for Community Works of Louisiana. These efforts resulted in the donation of 2,000 STEM kits and 3,000 laundry kits, demonstrating WEF’s commitment to community well-being and education.
