Ifetayo Venner of Arcadis (Amsterdam, Netherlands), who grew up in Barbados, thanked the early mentors who helped her turn her curiosity about shrinking coastlines on the island into a career in water.
In a new seminar format for WEFTEC 2017 — a series of short, informal presentations, dubbed WEFTalks — four prominent water leader recounted how influential mentors awakened their potential and helped shape their careers.
She spoke about how her network of mentors expanded as she pursued higher education and her career in Canada, the U.S., and elsewhere. This “personal board of directors,” as she described them, became much larger when she joined WEF, she said.
“They were willing to take the time to invest in me as a water professional and as a person. I would not be where I am today without them,” Venner said.
